Lumber Heritage Region GeoTour (GT505) invites geocachers to discover the forests, rivers, historic towns, and iconic landmarks of North-Central Pennsylvania. Spanning 15 counties across the Pennsylvania Wilds, this GeoTour of 23 geocaches showcases the people, places, and stories that helped shape the region’s rich lumber heritage.

From scenic overlooks and historic railroads to museums and outdoor recreation areas, every stop offers a new way to experience Pennsylvania’s lumber legacy. Along the way, geocachers can explore some of the region’s most recognizable attractions while enjoying the natural beauty that defines this corner of the state.


GCBF944 — Once the world’s tallest and longest railroad viaducts, the Kinzua Bridge carried coal and timber trains across the valley below. Today, visitors can walk the impressive skywalk and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding forest.

GCBF94D — At the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum, exhibits highlight how historic logging railroads hauled timber from remote forests to mills, fueling the region’s booming lumber industry.

GCBF94P — Take in breathtaking views at Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon, one of the state’s most spectacular natural landmarks and a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

GCBF972 — Explore Gobbler’s Knob, home of the legendary Punxsutawney Phil. Visit the site of the famous Groundhog Day celebration and discover one of Pennsylvania’s most beloved traditions.

Visitors can also plan their trip around popular regional events like Lumber Heritage WoodFest, the Bark Peelers’ Festival, or ASP Geobash, one of the Northeast’s premier geocaching gatherings.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
